St. Croix Day 5 – Going Home December 28, 2008

Wow, I’m waaay behind on these posts! My origional plan was to blog about those days down in St. Croix every night at the end of the day but that sure didn’t happen!

Anyway, this was the last day there. All I had time to do was pack up and take a few last minute photos around the resort.

I miss that place soooo much!

One cool thing, on the way from St. Croix to San Juan I took another 9 passenger island hopper plane and sat in the co-pilot seat! The pilot let me videotape the whole flight :)

St. Croix Day 4 December 18, 2008

This was my last day in St. Croix  :(  It all went by waaay too fast and I didn’t do nearly all that I wanted to. My must do was to go on the Buck Island snorkel trip but that fell through.

Since it rained on the wedding day we didn’t have time to take all of the formal photos so we took those in the morning. I think it was a good idea because we weren’t rushed and Jessie & Max even got into the water in their wedding attire.

Afterwards we went into town to buy last minute souvenirs. I love how all of the buildings are painted in beautiful pastel colors, and just the style of them! I guess you can only describe the architecture as Caribbean because they were a mix of different styles. Sort of Dutch and Spanish mixed together?

St. Croix Day 3 December 7, 2008

The third day was a little more laid back. We mostly lounged around the pool and beach. I decided that I wanted to try and kayak out to the island that was about a mile out. Brad and Rachel took one kayak and Nathaniel and I took the other. There weren’t enough paddles so we split them up and used half paddles, which made it a little more tough.  The island we paddled out to was some sort of nature preserve and it had a beautiful beach (much better than the resort’s beach)  The sand was very fine and the water crystal clear so I feel like I should’ve brought some snorkel gear. On the way back we found out why Brad and Rachel were so far behind us - Rachel was barely putting her paddle in the water :)

I think that’s the famous Buck Island in the distance.

I want to be back on that beach right now!

They thought that they were catching up to us.

Later on a few more decided to also kayak out. Lynsie and Jessie in one, Max & Jessie in another, Josh took a one person kayak, and Max’s dad took a little sailboat. Back on shore we were wondering what was taking them so long to get back because it was starting to get dark. I can’t see very far so I zoomed in with my camcorder and could see that Josh had flipped his tiny kayak and couldn’t get back in. If I had been the one to flip I would’ve freaked out being stuck in deep water bobbing like shark bait. Good thing that Max’s dad had taken the sailboat! Josh was able to get a ride back with him and they had to let the kayak drift away.

A bit after that a whole group decided to walk down to the burger joint and Caitlyn, Nathaniel, and I took a ride into town with Joe the bartender to hit up about four bars and get a look at town that night.

St. Croix Day 2 – Jessie & Max’s Wedding December 6, 2008

Ahh, my first day on the beautiful island of St. Croix. It started out very early because I didn’t sleep the night before so I laid in bed waiting for the clock to hit 5:30am before deciding to get up and take a look around. I took a little walk down to the beach where I sat and waited for the sun to rise and brighten up the sky. Of course I didn’t know what direction east was so the sun rose behind me and I didn’t get the sunrise over the ocean like I was hoping for. I still had a bunch of time to kill because the restaurant doesn’t open until 8:am for breakfast so I decided to videotape a little walking tour of the resort to take up some time. As soon as it got to be 8:am I sat down for my breakfast which was fantastic! I loved being able to sit outside overlooking the beach while enjoying the delicious food.

After breakfast I decided to take a long walk along the beach and then decided to head back to see if anyone was awake yet. We had some time to chill out since the wedding wasn’t until 4:30pm so we hung out around the pool and I decided to try out my dicapac (waterproof bag for my compact camera).

Then it was time for the wedding (which was beautiful of course). It did rain but that’s supposed to be good luck. I’m not alowed to show any of the wedding photos yet so that will come later.

St. Croix Day 1 December 6, 2008

Hmmm, where do I even start about today? It began with me having no sleep because I left the house at 3:30am and that’s the time I usually go to bed. The first fligh left at 6:30am to Atlanta. This was my first ever time in a plane and I was a little freaked out. My chest was tightening, I was shaking, and my tummy was very angry. The flight really wasn’t bad though and didn’t seem that long (a little over 2 hours). It was pretty easy finding our terminal in the Atlanta airport, and we even had to take a train within it. That flight also went well and I liked the variety of different Caribbean people on it to San Juan. We had Jamaican women sitting behind us and I love listening to their accents. The flight was mostly over the ocean which actually looked like an upside down sky because we were so high up. When we finally got to flying over Puerto Rico I was delighted at the sight of beaches and palm trees, all of the green! I really miss the color green in winter. The trip was going great until we got to the check in. Our tickets said we were leaving at 4:30pm but the woman at the counter said that we missed our flight and put us on an 8:20 flight. Ummm, how do we miss our flight if it’s not until 4:30 and we got there at 3:40?! So we were stuck in the crazy horrible San Juan airport for almost 5 hours instead of enjoying St. Croix with everyone else. When we did finally board our flight (a cute little 9 passenger hopper plane) we were about to take off when the pilot noticed we didn’t have enough fuel to make the flight. Good thing she noticed before we took off! We then had to wait about 25 minutes for the fuel truck to get there, then fuel up the plane. I really enjoyed the little flight but wish that it would’ve been during the day so I could see more out the window.  We finally made it to St. Croix somewhere around 10pm. Poor Ken & Jen still don’t have their bags because for some reason Delta still has the bags in San Juan. We were also supposed to get picked up at the airport but he left thinking we had caught a cab because our flight was so late getting in. So we waited around for quite some time then got a cab. We finally got to Chenay Bay Beach resort a little past 11pm. From what I’ve seen at night I’m really excited to see this place during the day. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a few hours sleep then wake up early and get as much sunshine as possible before the wedding. I haven’t slept since Wednesday night.
